Block Print Wallpapers & Wall Murals

Block print wallpapers bring an artisanal quality to a room that most printed patterns find hard to match. Rooted in the tradition of carving motifs into wooden or linoleum blocks, then inking and pressing them onto a surface, these designs are defined by their bold lines and subtly irregular textures. That small variation is precisely what gives them character, creating a sense of depth and warmth that feels genuine rather than mechanical.

A natural fit with organic materials and relaxed interiors

In a living room or bedroom, block print wall murals work well as a backdrop that holds its own without dominating the space. They pair naturally with raw and organic materials like oak, linen, rattan and ceramic, making them a strong choice for rustic, bohemian or Japandi interiors. The handcrafted quality of the technique echoes the natural imperfection you find in woven textiles, unglazed pottery and raw wood finishes, so the different elements of a room tend to feel connected rather than assembled.

For something more contemporary, abstract block print wallpapers offer a graphic edge that can complement mid-century modern furniture and pared-back decor without feeling out of place. The bold geometry common to many block print designs sits comfortably alongside clean lines and muted tones.

One feature wall or all four

One practical strength of this style is its range of intensity. A subtle, tonal block print pattern can work across all four walls, adding texture without visual noise, and is particularly effective in rooms where you want warmth but not drama. A bolder woodblock print mural used on a single feature wall can anchor the space and give it a clear focal point, especially when the remaining walls stay quiet in a complementary neutral.

The choice often comes down to the scale of the room and the existing furniture. In a smaller bedroom, a tonal all-over design avoids the risk of the space feeling closed in, while a larger living room can handle a more expressive block print mural without it feeling overwhelming.

Colours that complement the block print aesthetic

Block print wallpapers tend to work particularly well with warm, earthy palettes. Terracotta, ochre, off-white and deep olive all complement the organic feel of the technique. Block print designs in cooler tones, such as soft grey-blue, sage or dusty white, can feel just as considered in lighter, more Scandinavian-influenced interiors. Either way, the slight imperfection inherent in the print itself adds a layer of depth that keeps the room from feeling overly polished or uniform, which is part of what makes this style so enduringly appealing.
