Wallpaper Murals for Mudrooms

The mudroom is the first room you walk into and the last one you leave. It takes the brunt of boots, bags, wet coats, and the general chaos of daily coming and going, which makes choosing the right wallpaper here a genuinely worthwhile decision. A well-chosen design can give this hardworking space a sense of character and welcome without competing with the hooks, benches, and storage that make it function.

Making the transition feel intentional

Because the mudroom sits between the outdoors and the rest of the home, designs that echo the natural world tend to sit well here. Botanical prints, nature-inspired patterns, and organic textures can help ease that shift from outside to in, giving the space a grounded, cohesive feel. Classic geometric wallpapers are another solid option, adding visual interest without pulling attention away from the room's practical elements. Earthy tones, muted greens, warm neutrals, and deep navies work particularly well alongside common flooring materials like slate tile, stone, and hardwood.

Working around built-ins and storage

Most mudrooms include built-in cabinetry, open shelving, or a run of cubbies, and these tend to occupy the lower portion of the wall. A wallpaper that runs above the functional furniture, or that's reserved for a single focal wall, can add personality without getting lost behind coat hooks and bench seating. If the room has a clear back wall that's visible as you enter, that's usually the most impactful place to focus a wall mural. It adds depth and draws the eye without closing in what is often a fairly compact space.

Scale, colour, and the size of your mudroom

Smaller mudrooms benefit from designs that feel open rather than dense. A single wall mural in a lighter colourway or a pattern with some breathing room can make the space feel larger than a repeat print covering every wall. In a more generously sized mudroom, there's room to go bolder — a darker background colour or a more expressive pattern can hold its own against the visual weight of hanging outerwear and stacked bags. Whatever the scale, it helps to keep the wallpaper in conversation with the rest of the home. Since the mudroom is the first interior space a visitor sees, a design that hints at your overall aesthetic sets a natural tone for what's to come.
