Wallpaper Murals and Wallpapers for Cocktail Bars

Cocktail bars thrive on atmosphere, and the walls play a bigger role in setting that atmosphere than many other commercial spaces. Before the first drink is ordered, the interior has already formed an impression. Choosing the right wallpapers for a cocktail bar means thinking carefully about lighting, tone, and the kind of experience you want guests to have the moment they walk in.

Setting the Mood with Colour and Tone

Deep, rich colours tend to suit cocktail bar interiors well. Dark greens, navy blues, burgundy, and near-black tones can create a sense of intimacy and enclosure that works naturally with low lighting, candlelight, and the warm glow of a backlit bottle display. Jewel-toned wallpapers with moody botanical patterns or subtle metallic detailing can reinforce a luxurious, considered feel, sitting comfortably alongside velvet seating, brass hardware, and dark wood surfaces.

In a more contemporary or experimental setting, bold geometric or abstract wall murals can give the space energy and a sense of movement. These work particularly well on a feature wall, where a single strong visual anchors the room without overwhelming it.

The Bar Wall as a Design Focal Point

The wall directly behind the bar is one of the most considered placements in cocktail bar design. It frames the bottle display, draws the eye, and gives guests a visual focal point while they wait or sit at the counter. A well-chosen wallpaper or mural wallpaper here can define the character of the whole room. Darker, more dramatic designs tend to work especially well in this position, where the contrast with glass, chrome, and backlighting creates depth and visual interest.

For more enclosed seating areas or booths, wrapping the walls in a consistent wallpaper design can make the space feel intentional rather than sparse, giving smaller sections of the bar their own distinct character within the overall scheme.

Adapting the Look to Your Bar's Identity

Not every cocktail bar is aiming for the same feeling. A classic speakeasy-inspired interior calls for something different from a modern rooftop lounge or a neighbourhood cocktail spot. Wallpaper can be one of the clearest expressions of that identity. A moody botanical or textured pattern suggests heritage and craft; a graphic or abstract design reads as contemporary and confident. The style of the surrounding furniture, the lighting plan, and the overall colour palette should all inform the wallpaper choice.

Where walls are non-standard in size or shape, as is common in older commercial buildings, mural wallpapers made to measure for your wall dimensions can be a practical option, ensuring the design sits within the available space without awkward joins or cropping decisions.
