Wallpaper - Common Cruiser Butterfly

Our Common Cruiser Butterfly wallpaper mural, created in collaboration with artist Mackenzie Nelson, brings an oversized, painterly butterfly study into focal scale. Rendered with visible brushstrokes and rich tonal layering, the wings feature warm ochre, amber, and chestnut brown tones accented by deep sepia markings and subtle eyespots. The warm subject is set against a clean, off-white background with soft, expressive surrounding brushwork, creating an immediate focal point on the wall. Produced to your exact wall dimensions, our mural wallpapers are PVC-free and printed on paper with a subtle physical surface structure.

In the room

Because of its bold, large-scale graphic presence, we like this design best on a dedicated accent wall where the full specimen can command the room. In a living room, it works naturally on an uninterrupted wall behind a low sofa or credenza, giving the wings room to breathe without being cut off by tall furniture. In a bedroom, placing it behind the headboard creates an inviting, artful focal point. We also see this working exceptionally well in a home study or hallway, where the illustrative quality brings warmth and curiosity to intimate wall spaces.

Styling it

To let the detailed brushwork and earthy palette take center stage, we suggest pairing this design with quiet, grounded interior elements:

• Choose warm wood furniture, such as medium-toned oak or teak, to echo the golden amber tones in the wings.
• Keep larger upholstered pieces and textiles in neutral creams, soft oatmeal, or warm stone to match the airy background.
• Introduce small accents in dark bronze, blackened steel, or matte ceramics to reflect the deep sepia outlines of the motif.

Colour combinations

The motif itself is defined by a warm, nature-inspired palette of ochre, tawny brown, warm chestnut, and deep dark brown set over an off-white background. For surrounding walls and trim, we recommend soft warm whites, muted putty, or creamy beige to maintain a cohesive, light-filled atmosphere. If you prefer a richer, more enveloping feel in an adjacent space, earthy accents like burnt umber, terracotta, or deep olive green make wonderful complementary choices that draw out the warm depth of the wings.
