Wallpaper - Wanaka Sheep IV

Our Wanaka Sheep IV wallpaper brings photographic clarity and open landscape scale into the room through Laura Marshall's striking monochrome capture. The composition features three sheep ascending a grassy ridge against a dramatic sky filled with soft, textured cloud cover. With its rich tonal range spanning deep charcoals, gentle mid-greys, and luminous highlights, this mural wallpaper establishes a strong sense of horizon and natural depth. As with all Wallism wall murals, it is made-to-measure to your exact wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure.

In the room

Because the composition is built around an open landscape with a clear diagonal hill line, we find this design works particularly well on an uninterrupted feature wall where the full sweep of the sky and hillside has room to breathe. In a living room or behind a low bed in a bedroom, the strong horizontal depth creates an expansive feel without overwhelming the space.

The diagonal movement of the sheep moving along the ridgeline also makes it an engaging backdrop in a wider hallway or dining area, where the eye naturally follows the line across the wall. In rooms with generous natural daylight, the subtle tonal shifts in the clouds and the fine detail of the grass and fleece become wonderfully distinct.

Styling it

The black-and-white photographic character gives you great freedom when choosing surrounding furniture. We like to balance the expansive pastoral theme with clean, understated forms so the wall remains the focal point of the space.

Warm timber pieces, such as oiled ash or mid-tone oak, pair naturally with the monochrome palette and introduce a touch of warmth against the cool greys. For upholstery and textiles, soft woven fabrics in unbleached linen, wool, or charcoal complement the natural subject matter without competing with the scenic photography. Keeping surrounding accent decor minimal and grounded lets the artwork bring its own quiet narrative into the room.

Colour combinations

The palette within our design relies entirely on classic monochrome tones, including crisp whites, gentle stone greys, and deep charcoal shadows.

When choosing paint colours for adjacent walls, warm off-whites, soft limestone tones, or pale greys create a seamless transition that keeps the room bright and cohesive. If you prefer a richer, more cocooning atmosphere, you can pull from the darkest values in the photograph by selecting deep graphite, charcoal, or muted slate for woodwork and doors. Natural earthy accents like terracotta, ochre, or muted moss green in surrounding cushions and ceramics also sit comfortably alongside the black-and-white tones.
