Wallpaper - Wishful Thinking

Our Wishful Thinking wallpaper, created by Kate Jarvik Birch, brings a surreal and poetic narrative to the wall with its distinctive painted composition. The artwork features a figure in a vivid red dress with an intricate white lace collar, whose head is replaced by a blooming dandelion seed head drifting gently into an open blue sky with soft white clouds. Set against a rolling green meadow with subtle wildflower accents, the design combines expressive gouache-like brushwork with bold figurative storytelling. Made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, it functions as an arresting focal point that completely transforms the character of an interior.

In the room

Because of its strong narrative and portrait-like orientation, we see this wall mural working best on a dedicated accent wall where the central figure and drifting dandelion seeds can remain largely unobstructed. In a living room or creative study, placing it on the primary wall facing the entryway immediately gives the space an imaginative, gallery-like presence. In a bedroom, positioning the mural behind a low headboard allows the upper composition, with its expansive sky and floating seed parachutes, to draw the eye upward and keep the room feeling open.

Styling it

The vivid red of the garment and the rich green meadow provide an expressive foundation, so we suggest keeping large furniture pieces grounded and relatively quiet. Low-profile seating in neutral fabrics or warm, unpainted wood furniture lets the artwork command attention without visual conflict. To complement the whimsical, illustrative character of the design, consider styling with vintage-inspired ceramics or minimalist lighting with rounded silhouettes that echo the soft curves of the clouds and dandelion head.

Colour combinations

The palette within our wallpaper is defined by the contrast between deep tomato red, grassy greens, clear azure blue, and crisp white. When choosing surrounding wall colors or large accents, soft off-whites and muted pale sky tones create a seamless, airy transition around the mural. Alternatively, introducing accents in warm ochre or deep moss green echoes the meadow floor and grounds the room in a rich, cohesive color story.
