Wallpaper - Desert Noir I

Created by June Erica Vess, our Desert Noir I wallpaper brings together expressive, painterly brushstrokes across a layered, abstract landscape. Broad sweeps of terracotta, clay, and warm desert sand interlock with muted slate blue, soft denim, charcoal, and warm cream patches. What we particularly like is the visible brushwork throughout the composition, where dry-brush sweeps and dense opaque layers overlap to give the wall movement and depth. Our wallpapers are made-to-measure to fit your specific wall dimensions and are completely PVC-free, with a subtle structure in the wallpaper paper that adds to the visual richness of the surface.

In the room

We see this mural wallpaper working especially well on a wide, uninterrupted wall where the dynamic horizontal flow of the brushstrokes can fully unfold. In a living room behind a low-backed sofa or in a bedroom behind a headboard, the larger scale of the painted marks creates a compelling focal point without overwhelming the space. Because the palette balances both cool blue-grey tones and warm earthy shades, the design adapts naturally across open-plan areas and dining spaces. In rooms with ample natural daylight, the tonal contrasts between the deep charcoal accents and creamy highlights stay clear and distinct, while softer ambient lighting brings out the warmth of the ochre and terracotta sections.

Styling it

To let the expressive character of the wallpaper take center stage, we recommend pairing it with streamlined, understated furniture pieces. Clean-lined mid-century or modern silhouettes in warm woods like walnut or natural oak echo the earthier pigment tones within the motif. Upholstery in solid neutral textiles, such as off-white canvas or warm taupe wool, keeps the room balanced against the abstract pattern. If you want to introduce metal elements, matte black hardware or muted aged brass naturally complements the darker brush marks and golden clay undertones.

Colour combinations

The wallpaper itself features an earthy, balanced palette of terracotta, warm sand, soft cream, slate blue, denim, and deep charcoal. When decorating around it, we suggest pulling directly from these core tones. For adjacent painted walls, a muted sand or warm off-white keeps the room bright and cohesive, while a deep slate blue on nearby millwork or cabinetry creates a more dramatic, tailored contrast. For larger soft furnishings and accent pieces, earthy rust, dusty denim blue, and warm charcoal help ground the room effortlessly.
