Wallpaper - Ocean Hues I

Our Ocean Hues I wallpaper, created by Kathy Ferguson, brings together horizontal bands of mixed-media abstract collage in a layered palette of sea greens, soft blues, lilacs, muted teal, and warm cream. What we particularly like about this design is the rich interplay of visual textures, where watercolor-like washes and speckled pigments sit alongside fine line sketches, organic pebble shapes, and subtle geometric striping. The horizontal composition creates a fluid, rhythmic movement across the wall without feeling rigid. Produced as made-to-measure mural wallpapers on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure, this design brings an artistic, expressive presence to any interior.

In the room

Because the composition relies on horizontal movement and fine collage-like details, we see this working especially well on a wide, uninterrupted living room wall or behind a bed in a bedroom. The horizontal bands naturally draw the eye across the room, which can help visually anchor longer wall spaces. In an entryway or hallway, the varied segments of pattern and wash invite closer viewing as you move past. In generous daylight, the delicate shifts between soft lilac, washed greens, and pale watery blues become particularly distinct, while under warmer evening lighting the cream and deeper indigo elements take on a cozier feel.

Styling it

We would keep the surrounding furnishings relatively understated to let the wallpaper serve as the central visual artwork in the room. Low-profile furniture with clean, modern lines works wonderfully against the horizontal bands, preventing the wall from feeling visually crowded. Lighter wood tones or soft off-white painted furniture echo the calm, coastal character of the palette without competing with the detailed collage elements. If you choose to introduce decorative accents, quiet ceramic pieces or smooth glass objects complement the fluid, painterly feel of the motif.

Colour combinations

The motif contains a nuanced spectrum of colors, including soft seafoam green, sage, sky blue, deep indigo, lavender, soft lilac, and warm off-white. For adjacent painted walls and woodwork, warm whites or very soft pale creams create a seamless, airy transition that lets the wall mural stand out. If you prefer deeper contrast, pairing the design with muted blue-grey or dark navy on adjacent trim or upholstery picks up on the richer brushstrokes and linework within the pattern.
