Wallpaper - Wellie Season

Our Wellie Season wallpaper, created in collaboration with Kate Jarvik Birch, captures a playful rainy-day scene with a distinctly painterly character. The composition focuses on bright red rubber boots standing in a puddle, surrounded by concentric water ripples, floating autumn leaves, and deep watery reflections. Rendered in a rich, gouache-inspired style, the artwork balances the vivid scarlet of the boots against atmospheric slate blues, teals, and warm amber accents. Like all our wallpapers, this mural design is made-to-measure to fit your exact wall dimensions on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure.

In the room

We see this mural wallpaper working particularly well as an accent wall in an entryway, mudroom, or children's bedroom. Because the motif has a clear vertical focus with the boots positioned in the upper left and expansive water ripples spreading across the foreground, it naturally commands attention. On an open hallway or entryway wall, it sets a welcoming, storybook tone right by the door. In a child's bedroom or playroom, we would place it along an uninterrupted wall behind lower storage or a low bed frame so the playful puddle details and ripples remain fully visible.

Styling it

To let the expressive illustration take centre stage, we suggest keeping surrounding furniture relatively simple and grounded. Natural light wood furniture, such as birch or pale ash, complements the painterly blues without competing for attention.

You can draw out the artwork's warmth by introducing small touches of burnt orange, mustard, or red through everyday accessories like coat hooks, a woven laundry basket, or cushion covers. Matte painted finishes on surrounding walls and trim work best here, allowing the lively water reflections to provide the room's main visual interest.

Colour combinations

The palette within our wallpaper is built around a vibrant pillar-box red, contrasted against deep slate blue, cool teal, charcoal, and warm rust tones.

For adjacent walls and painted millwork, soft off-whites, misty blues, or pale stone shades provide a calm, balanced backdrop that allows the red boots to stand out. If you prefer a richer, more enveloping feel in an entryway, a deep navy or muted slate grey drawn directly from the puddle reflections creates an inviting, cohesive atmosphere.
