Wallpaper - Steeped in Crimson

Our Steeped in Crimson wallpaper mural, created by Kate Jarvik Birch, features a painterly still life of a vintage teacup and saucer resting on a crisp white surface. Rich crimson and ruby tones gleam from within the tea, beautifully accented by amber reflections, delicate silver detailing on the spoon, and soft slate-blue shadows. The gouache-like brushstrokes and striking perspective bring an intimate, artistic character to the wall. Like all our mural wallpapers, this design is made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, making it straightforward to hang.

In the room

We love this design as a statement wall in spaces dedicated to gathering and quiet moments. It brings warmth and visual interest to a dining room, kitchen nook, or breakfast corner, where the still-life subject feels right at home. In a reading corner, study, or living room, the large scale of the painted teacup creates a striking conversation piece without overwhelming the surrounding space. Because the artwork relies on a clean, diagonal composition with cool shadows balancing the deep crimson tones, it works exceptionally well on an open, relatively uninterrupted accent wall where the full painted composition can be appreciated.

Styling it

To let the expressive brushwork and rich colors take center stage, we recommend keeping surrounding elements simple and intentional. Pair this wall mural with clean-lined painted furniture or light natural surfaces that echo the brightness of the white tabletop in the painting. To complement the vintage feel of the teacup motif, consider subtle vintage or mid-century accents, such as classic ceramic tableware or simple wooden dining chairs, which harmonize with the illustrative quality of the design.

Colour combinations

The design itself is built around luminous crimson, deep garnet, and warm amber tones inside the cup, framed by cool slate blues, muted purples, and clean white. To complement the mural, consider painting adjacent walls in a soft off-white, light warm grey, or muted dusty blue to pick up on the cast shadows. For a bolder, cozier palette, a deep burgundy or warm plum on surrounding trim or cabinetry can draw out the rich depths of the steeped tea.
