Wallpaper - Melting

Our Melting wallpaper, created by Kate Jarvik Birch, brings a bold, painted still life into the room with an expressive close-up of a melting ice cube resting in its own puddle. We particularly like how the cool blue, aqua, and slate tones are balanced by crisp white highlights and subtle reflections of warm ochre and amber. The painterly brushwork and defined outlines give the composition a modern graphic presence that makes a distinct visual statement. Like all Wallism wallpapers, this design is made-to-measure to fit your wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure.

In the room

Because of its large-scale focal motif, we see this wall mural working especially well on an uninterrupted feature wall where the central composition can be appreciated from a distance. In an open-plan living room or a dining area, placing it behind a low console or credenza keeps the artwork unobstructed while grounding the space. It also works well in a modern study or creative home office, where the cool palette and focused subject matter add visual intrigue without overpowering everyday furniture.

Styling it

We recommend pairing this design with clean, contemporary silhouettes that let the expressive painting remain the focal point. Low-profile furniture in muted grey, off-white, or cool neutrals keeps the visual weight balanced around the wall. Natural wood accents, such as pale ash or warm oak, introduce a grounded organic warmth that picks up on the subtle amber reflections within the ice. Glass, brushed steel, or polished chrome decor also complement the translucent, reflective quality of the motif.

Colour combinations

The palette within our mural wallpaper is built around icy blues, deep navy, grey-teal, and crisp white, accented by warm hints of ochre in the reflection. For surrounding walls and trim, cool off-whites, misty greys, or pale sky blues create a seamless, cohesive backdrop. If you prefer higher contrast, deep slate, indigo, or charcoal painted details echo the darkest shadows in the artwork and give the space a more dramatic look.
