Wallpaper - Not Made Of Stone

Created by Kate Jarvik Birch, our Not Made Of Stone wallpaper presents a dramatic, close-up portrait of a classical stone sculpture captured mid-emotion with tears streaming down its face. Painted-looking brushstrokes and soft gradations give the motif artistic depth, balancing cool slate blues, pale stone grays, and soft highlights against a deep navy blue background. The upward angle of the statue and high visual contrast give this design a striking, expressive character that instantly commands attention on a feature wall. Like all Wallism wallpapers, this mural wallpaper is made-to-measure to fit your room dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure that makes it straightforward to hang.

In the room

Because of the scale and intense focal point of the face, we see this design working best on an accent wall where it has room to be appreciated without interruption. In a living room, placing this wall mural directly behind a low-backed sofa or along a primary feature wall lets the expressive portrait anchor the entire space. It also brings strong drama to an entryway, hallway, or home office, offering a bold visual statement as soon as you step inside. We would keep tall furniture away from the centre of the wall so the upward gaze and flowing painted details remain fully visible.

Styling it

To let the powerful composition lead the space, we recommend keeping surrounding furnishings tailored and visually calm. Mid-century modern or contemporary furniture with clean silhouettes and low profiles works particularly well against the bold imagery.

For surrounding textures, matte finishes and quiet materials create a balanced contrast against the dramatic brushwork. Deep walnut or dark-stained woods complement the rich background, while brushed brass or antique bronze accents can pick up the subtle warmer highlights in the stone.

Colour combinations

The palette in this wallpaper centres around deep navy blue, cool slate gray, muted cerulean tones, and soft pale stone whites. When planning adjacent walls and decor, pairing this mural with deep midnight blue or charcoal paint creates a moody, immersive atmosphere. If you prefer more lightness, crisp off-white or soft mineral gray on surrounding walls will frame the motif cleanly and emphasize its graphic contrast.
