Wallpaper - Color Clef I

Created by June Erica Vess, our Color Clef I wallpaper brings an expressive, painterly energy to the wall through sweeping brushwork and a balanced palette. Broad strokes of soft sky blue, cerulean, and crisp white create an open, airy movement, anchored at the centre by grounded accents of earthy terracotta, olive green, slate grey, and warm taupe. The gestural layers give the composition the visual character of an original abstract painting, where every stroke and charcoal-like mark feels deliberate and fluid. Printed as made-to-measure wall murals on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical surface structure, this design brings an artistic focal point to modern living spaces and bedrooms.

In the room

We see Color Clef I working beautifully across a wide, uninterrupted living room wall where the full sweep of the brushwork can be appreciated from across the room. Because the visual weight concentrates near the centre while the edges soften into airy blues and whites, the composition feels expansive rather than heavy. It acts as an artistic backdrop behind a low-profile sofa, allowing the expressive marks to rise naturally above the furniture line.

In a bedroom, we would place this design behind the bed to frame the headboard with cool, calming tones. The balance of light blue and grounded earth shades also suits a creative home office or an open dining area, where large-scale mural wallpapers can set a sophisticated, contemporary tone without overwhelming the space.

Styling it

To complement the expressive movement of the motif, we suggest keeping surrounding furniture clean-lined and quiet. Modern silhouettes in light oak, natural ash, or pale birch harmonize effortlessly with the lighter sections of the print, keeping the atmosphere relaxed and bright.

If you prefer richer contrast, furniture with dark walnut tones or charcoal metal frames can echo the deeper brown and slate brushstrokes near the centre of the design. When selecting textiles for cushions or curtains, matte linen and unbleached cotton in warm off-white or soft oatmeal provide tactile warmth that balances the cool blue foundation of our wallpapers.

Colour combinations

The palette in our wallpaper centres around light sky blue, baby blue, and chalky white, contrasted by deeper accents of terracotta, olive, taupe, and slate grey.

When choosing paint colours for adjacent walls or trim, we recommend pulling from the softer, neutral elements of the design. Warm off-white, light ecru, or a pale stone grey will create a seamless transition around the room. If you want to introduce subtle contrast through upholstery or painted woodwork, soft terracotta or muted olive tones will pick up on the warm central marks and tie the entire interior together.
