Wallpaper - Gliding

Our Gliding wallpaper brings together an expressive painted swan moving across deep, shadowed water. Illustrated by Kate Jarvik Birch, the design pairs painterly brushwork with luminous highlights along the feathers and water ripples. Soft pale blues, warm yellows, and crisp white details stand out clearly against the rich, dark charcoal and olive-tinted background. Like all of our wallpapers, this mural wallpaper is made-to-measure to fit your room dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle paper structure.

In the room

Because of the scale of the central motif and the striking contrast between the bird and the dark backdrop, we see this working particularly well on a main feature wall in a bedroom or a quiet living room. Giving the mural generous space across an uninterrupted wall lets the full reflection and the breadth of the wings show without feeling crowded. In a bedroom, placing this design behind a bed creates a grounding, serene focal point, while in an entryway or dining area, the dramatic dark backdrop adds immediate depth.

Styling it

When decorating around this design, we recommend balancing the rich, dark tones of the mural with lighter and softer room elements:

• Pair with warm, low-profile furniture in pale wood or soft off-white upholstery to let the artwork remain the visual anchor.
• Echo the delicate brushwork by introducing matte ceramic accents or simple, uncluttered lighting fixtures rather than ornate decor.
• Select flowing, unpatterned curtains in neutral shades that soften the wall transitions without competing with the painted reflections.

Colour combinations

The palette inside our wallpaper is built on deep charcoal, soft aquatic blues, warm luminous yellows, and pure white highlights, accented by the delicate touch of orange-red on the swan's bill. For adjacent walls and trim, softer off-whites, pale stone, or muted slate grey create a clean, contemporary frame. If you want a more enveloping, dramatic setting, surrounding the wall murals with deep charcoal or warm olive-grey paint helps the luminous whites and reflections stand out with even greater intensity.
