Wallpaper - A Place To Sit and Think

Our A Place To Sit and Think wallpaper, designed by Kate Jarvik Birch, brings an expressive and charming character to the wall with its painted-style portrait of a curious cat peeking out from a cardboard box. We love the contrast between the rich, atmospheric forest green background and the crisp white and charcoal tones of the cat's face. The large-scale composition and painterly brushwork give the artwork an immediate presence, making it a distinctive focal point. Printed made-to-measure on our PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, this design is simple to hang and creates an engaging visual statement.

In the room

Because of the bold scale and narrative focus of the composition, we see this wall mural working best on a feature wall where the cat's gaze can interact directly with the space. In a study, guest room, or creative home office, placing this design on the wall behind a desk or beside a reading nook gives the room an instant sense of personality.

It also fits naturally in a hallway, entryway, or children's bedroom, where a playful motif brings warmth and curiosity to everyday corners. We recommend giving the mural an uninterrupted wall area so the lower edge and the full expression of the artwork remain clearly visible without being blocked by tall furniture.

Styling it

To let the artwork remain the clear centerpiece of the room, we would keep the surrounding furniture relatively understated. Pieces with clean lines in warm wood or painted finishes allow the illustrative style of the wallpaper to stand out naturally.

We also like balancing the deep green tones in the motif with matte accents and simple textiles. Choosing curtains or upholstery in unpatterned cream, warm grey, or soft terracotta echoes the tones inside the box and cat's features while maintaining a quiet, comfortable balance across the wider space.

Colour combinations

The palette of our wallpaper is anchored by a deep olive-forest green background, offset by bright white, soft slate grey, charcoal, warm cardboard ochre, and a delicate pop of coral pink on the nose.

When choosing colors for adjacent walls and woodwork, we suggest pulling from the warmer off-whites or soft light greys to keep the surrounding space bright and open. If you prefer a richer, more enveloping feel, painting the surrounding trim or walls in a complementary moss or muted olive green creates a cohesive look that frames the mural wallpapers beautifully.
