Wallpaper - Umbrella After The Storm

Our Umbrella After The Storm wallpaper, created by Kate Jarvik Birch, captures a striking rainy-street scene defined by fluid ripples, deep reflections, and a vivid red focal point. The composition centres on a figure holding a bright red umbrella and wearing matching shoes and a red skirt, stepping through rain-slicked pavement where rippling water mirrors every shape. Painted-looking brushstrokes and bold contrast between the deep blacks, cool wet greys, warm amber tones, and saturated scarlet give this mural wallpaper an expressive, artistic character. Made-to-measure on our PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, it brings graphic energy and storytelling into your interior.

In the room

We see this design working particularly well as an accent wall in an entryway, living room, or hallway where the sense of movement and street-level perspective can set an inviting, atmospheric tone. Because the artwork features a strong vertical figure and broad horizontal water reflections, giving it an uninterrupted wall allows the full scale of the composition to be seen without disruption. In a dining area or behind a living room sofa, the deep reflections in the lower half of the design ground the space, while the bright umbrella draws the eye upward.

Styling it

Because our wallpaper has such strong visual contrast and graphic presence, we would keep the surrounding furniture relatively streamlined to let the artwork take centre stage. Clean-lined modern pieces in matte black, charcoal, or dark wood anchor the lower half of the room and echo the dark pavement tones. To balance the composition, you can pick up the vibrant red in one or two small accents, such as a sculptural table lamp, a ceramic bowl, or an upholstered armchair, without overcrowding the wall.

Colour combinations

The design itself is built around a vivid contrast between vibrant crimson red and a sophisticated base of deep charcoal, cool slate grey, pale puddle reflections, and warm amber highlights. When selecting surrounding wall paint and trim, soft off-whites, neutral greys, or muted stone tones allow the red motif to stand out naturally. For a moodier, more dramatic room, pairing the wallpaper with adjacent charcoal or deep slate walls creates a cohesive, enveloping space that enhances the rainy atmosphere of the artwork.
