Wallpaper - Red Mesa

Created in collaboration with artist Kate Jarvik Birch, our Red Mesa wallpaper captures an expansive desert landscape defined by towering red rock formations, sunlit plateaus, and low desert scrub. We especially like the contrast between the saturated terracotta, rust, and ochre cliffs and the luminous blue sky with rolling cloud formations. The painted brushwork gives the panoramic scene an expressive, artistic character with distinct layers of depth from the foreground sagebrush to the distant mesa peaks. Like all our mural wallpapers, this design is made to measure and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure.

In the room

Because of its painterly horizon and wide landscape format, we see this wall mural working particularly well on a main feature wall where the scene can stretch out without heavy disruption. In a living room, placing it behind a sofa or low credenza gives the panoramic perspective plenty of visual breathing room. In a dining room or home study, the warm earth tones establish a grounded, welcoming backdrop that anchors the entire space. If you are decorating a bedroom, running the design along the headboard wall brings warm color and depth into the room while keeping the upper visual field open and airy thanks to the painted sky.

Styling it

The rich terracotta and desert hues pair naturally with warm-toned woods like oak, walnut, or pine, alongside clean-lined furniture that lets the landscape remain the focal point. To complement the painterly aesthetic without competing with it, we would keep surrounding textiles simple, leaning into natural textures such as unbleached linen, woven wool rugs, or slubbed cotton in neutral tones. Matte ceramics, terracotta pots, or subtle blackened metal accents also connect nicely with the earthy palette and deep shadows in the foreground brushwork.

Colour combinations

The design itself is built on a rich balance of warm rust, burnt orange, golden ochre, dusty olive, and vibrant sky blues alongside soft cloud whites. When choosing paint for adjacent walls or trim, warm sandy neutrals, muted clay tones, or soft off-whites help the wallpaper feel like a natural extension of the room. If you want a more intentional contrast, pulling out a muted dusty blue or pale desert sage for painted woodwork or accent pieces creates a cohesive connection to the sky and foliage in the motif.
