Wallpaper - Cruising State

Our Cruising State wallpaper by Kate Jarvik Birch captures the atmospheric glow of an evening city street in the rain. Deep teal, indigo, and charcoal tones form the night backdrop, while vibrant orange, red, and warm yellow reflections bleed across the wet asphalt. Rendered with expressive, painterly brushwork and blurred bokeh lights, the composition centres on cars moving through rain-slicked city traffic. Like all Wallism mural wallpapers, this design is made-to-measure to fit your wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure.

In the room

Because of its cinematic scale and rich tonal contrast, we see this wall mural working especially well on an accent wall in a living room, media room, or home office. The horizontal energy of the cars and the vertical streaks of falling rain and puddles give the artwork a dynamic presence, making it ideal for a wider, uninterrupted wall area behind a low-profile sofa or desk.

In rooms with lower evening lighting or warm floor lamps, the painted reflections in the lower half of the wallpaper create an enveloping, moody ambience. The dark, saturated palette anchors the room without overwhelming it, provided surrounding walls are kept clean and simple.

Styling it

We recommend pairing this painterly wallpaper with mid-century modern or contemporary furniture that has clean, architectural lines. Low-slung seating in dark charcoal, rich tan leather, or deep navy allows the vibrant amber and crimson highlights of the mural to stand out.

To complement the urban theme without creating visual clutter, keep decorative accents minimal. Matte black metal elements or warm brass lighting fixtures subtly echo the streetlamps and taillights in the artwork, while keeping the overall room calm and intentional.

Colour combinations

The design is built on a rich foundation of indigo, midnight blue, slate teal, and charcoal, punctuated by vivid hits of neon orange, crimson, and golden yellow.

For adjacent walls and woodwork, muted charcoal or deep twilight blues work beautifully if you want a cosy, monochrome look. If you prefer more contrast, soft off-whites, cool greys, or muted teal provide a crisp frame that lets the artwork take centre stage.
