Wallpaper - Peony in Black

Our Peony in Black wallpaper, created in collaboration with Krystal Adams, features a painterly floral portrait set against a deep, dark ground. Centered around a blooming peony, the design showcases expressive brushstroke textures with rich layers of blush, dusty rose, peach, and deep burgundy, balanced by green foliage along a slender central stem. The stark contrast between the luminous floral tones and the dark backdrop gives this mural wallpaper a dramatic visual presence. Produced as a made-to-measure, PVC-free wallpaper with a subtle paper texture, it provides an artful focal point that is straightforward to hang.

In the room

We love seeing this design treated as a statement wall mural where its dramatic scale and painterly details have space to unfold. In a bedroom, placing our wallpaper directly behind the bed headboard creates an intimate and cocooning atmosphere, allowing the deep tones to anchor the sleeping area. For a dining room or living room, positioning the mural on a main feature wall offers a striking conversational backdrop that feels curated and deliberate.

Because the motif carries significant contrast and dark visual weight, it works beautifully on uninterrupted wall surfaces where the full height of the stem and bloom can be appreciated. In rooms with generous daylight, the layered shades within the petals and leaves reveal their subtle tonal shifts, while lower evening lighting softens the dark backdrop into an enveloping, cozy setting.

Styling it

When styling around this floral wallpaper, we suggest letting the motif lead the room while keeping surrounding elements tactile and refined.

• Balance the dark background with dark wood furniture, such as walnut or stained oak, to create a cohesive, moody palette, or introduce painted furniture in soft taupe or muted charcoal.
• Pair the wallpaper with plush, woven upholstery and matte textiles like velvet cushions or heavy linen drapes in dusty rose, deep plum, or warm cream.
• Incorporate warm brass or muted antique bronze lighting fixtures to add a delicate metallic accent that highlights the warmth of the peach and burgundy petals.

Colour combinations

The motif itself is built around a distinct palette of deep near-black, rosy pink, blush, peach, crimson, and deep forest green.

To create a seamless look across the rest of the room, consider pulling out the dusky pink and peach tones for decorative accents, cushions, or artwork on adjacent walls. For surrounding wall surfaces, muted charcoal, warm off-white, or deep burgundy paint creates a sophisticated contrast that echoes the shadows and highlights of the peony blossom.
