Wallpaper - Wanaka Sheep II

Captured by Laura Marshall, our Wanaka Sheep II wallpaper mural brings the open scale of high-country pastures into the home through striking monochrome photography. The composition follows a group of sheep dotted along a sweeping hillside, set against distant snow-dusted mountain ranges and an expansive, cloud-filled sky. The rich contrast between the soft textured fleece, the dark grassy slope, and the bright peaks creates a sense of depth and quiet presence on the wall. Produced made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, this design brings an authentic landscape perspective to contemporary and classic interiors alike.

In the room

The strong diagonal slope of the hillside gives this mural wallpaper an appealing dynamic rhythm, drawing the eye naturally across the space. In a living room or open dining area, we would place this design along a wide, uninterrupted wall behind a low sofa or credenza, allowing the full progression from the foreground hillside up to the mountain peaks to remain visible.

Because the landscape is framed in tonal monochrome rather than vibrant color, it can also work exceptionally well in a quiet bedroom behind the headboard or in a home office where you want a calm visual backdrop. In a hallway or entryway, the perspective of the open sky and distant peaks provides an immediate feeling of scale and breathing room as you move through the space.

Styling it

When styling around Wanaka Sheep II, we suggest keeping furniture profiles relatively low and architectural so the expansive sky and mountainous horizon take center stage. Clean-lined pieces in warm woods, such as smoked oak, walnut, or ash, offer a natural tactile counterpoint to the photographic detail of the scenery.

To balance the strong contrasts in the print, introduce soft matte textiles like unbleached wool throws, textured bouclé, or woven linen cushions. Upholstery in warm off-white, taupe, or charcoal echoes the tonal values of the sheep and the rugged terrain without competing for attention. Underfoot, a simple low-pile wool rug in a solid neutral tone helps ground the room while maintaining a cohesive, relaxed interior.

Colour combinations

The design itself is built on a tonal monochrome foundation, featuring deep charcoal, soft graphite, warm grey tones, and crisp off-white highlights in the snow and sky.

To complement these shades, we recommend working with surrounding wall colors and woodwork in chalky, muted neutrals. A soft limestone or warm greige on adjacent walls prevents the room from feeling chilly, while an off-black or dark slate paint on door frames or shelving can mirror the deepest tones in the hillside. If you prefer a touch of subtle color nearby, muted olive, dried sage, or understated terracotta will bring an earthy warmth that pairs effortlessly with the alpine landscape.
