Wallpaper - Portrait Of A Pear

Created by Kate Jarvik Birch, our Portrait Of A Pear wallpaper brings the intimate, painterly charm of a classic still life into a large-scale format. The composition features a single russet pear with golden, speckled tones resting on a folded blue-and-white striped textile against a deep, shadowed backdrop. What we particularly appreciate about this mural wallpaper is the balance between the fluid, gestural brushstrokes of the fabric and the warm, grounded weight of the fruit. Like all our wallpapers, this design is made-to-measure to fit your wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper.

In the room

Because of its painterly still-life format and focal composition, we see this wall mural working especially well on an accent wall where the motif can anchor the entire space. In a dining room or an open kitchen eating area, placing the pear behind a dining table or sideboard gives the wall the visual weight of an oversized gallery piece. The deep, atmospheric backdrop creates an enveloping mood in a study, reading nook, or small guest bedroom, particularly where you want the room to feel grounded and composed. On a wall that receives soft side lighting or warm evening lamps, the layered golden hues on the fruit and the brushwork in the cloth gain wonderful visual depth.

Styling it

To complement the rich, artisanal quality of the painting, we recommend keeping surrounding furniture simple with warm wood tones or painted dark surfaces that echo the shadowed background. Matte ceramics, dark iron details, or natural linens pair naturally with the still-life character without competing with the central image. If you are placing low furniture, such as a credenza or bench, in front of the wall, keeping tabletop accessories minimal allows the draped stripes and textured pear to remain the visual focal point of the space.

Colour combinations

The design itself is built on a rich dialogue between warm and cool tones: deep midnight blue, crisp white, warm ochre, golden amber, and soft charcoal. For surrounding walls, we suggest pulling from the darker undertones with a moody ink blue or graphite grey to create a seamless, dramatic perimeter. If you prefer a lighter, more open look, a soft off-white or chalky cream that matches the lighter stripes in the fabric keeps the room feeling fresh while letting the darker tones in the wallpaper stand out.
