Wallpaper - Afternoon Nap

Our Afternoon Nap wallpaper by Kate Jarvik Birch captures an intimate, painterly scene of an orange tabby cat sleeping across a vibrant green cushion. Rich gouache-like brushwork defines the warm ginger and white fur, while deep, shadowy tones contrast with the bright patch of sunlight across the chair. What we love about this mural wallpaper is its quiet charm and expressive illustrative character, bringing warmth and personality to any wall. Like all our wallpapers, this design is made-to-measure to your exact wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle paper structure.

In the room

Because of its painterly composition and strong focal point, we see this wall mural working particularly well as an accent wall in a bedroom, living room, or a cosy reading nook. Placing the artwork behind a low-backed sofa, a desk in a home office, or along an uninterrupted wall allows the full illustrative motif to breathe without competing with tall furniture. In spaces with soft natural daylight, the contrasts between the deep dark backdrop and the luminous green cushion become especially vivid, grounding the room in a relaxed, personal atmosphere.

Styling it

When styling around this design, we prefer keeping large furniture relatively simple in form so the character of the artwork remains the central focus. Low-profile seating in muted neutral fabrics or warm-toned wood complements the organic feel of the brushstrokes without overcrowding the scene.

To echo the cozy mood of the motif, introduce tactile accents such as a chunky knit throw, a simple wool rug, or textured linen cushions nearby. Keeping surrounding surfaces uncluttered helps maintain the peaceful, quiet balance that makes this design so inviting.

Colour combinations

The palette in our wallpaper centres on rich ginger orange, crisp white, deep moss green, and dark charcoal shadows. When considering surrounding paint colours, you can draw from the olive and moss undertones to create a cocooning, nature-inspired room, or choose warm off-white and soft stone on adjacent walls to keep the space airy. For a bolder look, pairing the mural with dark olive woodwork or deep slate accents grounds the composition beautifully.
