Wallpaper - Nautical Symbols Panel I

Designed by Avery Tillmon, our Nautical Symbols Panel I wallpaper brings a graphic maritime sensibility to the wall through three iconic naval emblems. Set horizontally against an off-white background with a weathered, hand-aged visual texture, the composition showcases a lifebuoy with rope detailing, a tri-coloured signal pennant in red, cream, and navy blue, and a bold crimson swallowtail flag. The weathered visual patina softens the bold geometric shapes, creating a vintage coastal look that feels timeless rather than nautical novelty. Like all our wall murals, this design is made-to-measure and completely PVC-free.

In the room

The wide, horizontal layout makes this design particularly well suited to an accent wall where the full sequence of symbols can unfold without heavy interruption. We see it working exceptionally well along a hallway, above low wainscoting in a dining space, or positioned behind a bed or low sofa in a living room or study. Because the motif is arranged with generous open space between the figures, the design adds distinct character without overwhelming the room. In rooms with ample natural light, the contrast between the deep navy and rich red symbols and the textured, cream background becomes especially noticeable.

Styling it

To complement the graphic, maritime character of this design, we suggest pairing it with clean-lined furniture and coastal-inspired materials. Crisp painted woodwork, such as off-white or soft navy panelling, creates a natural architectural frame below or alongside the mural wallpapers. Simple light wood finishes or painted cabinetry allow the bold symbols on the wall to remain the primary visual statement, while accents in woven rope, canvas, or matte dark metal echo the nautical theme in a subtle, contemporary way.

Colour combinations

The palette within the wallpaper centres on deep nautical red, dark navy blue, and warm cream, accented by subtle tan rope details. When selecting paint shades and larger textiles to accompany the design, soft warm whites and linen tones maintain a bright, cohesive look across adjacent walls. For a richer, more defined scheme, bringing in deep navy or slate blue through trim, doors, or upholstery creates a handsome connection to the central pennant.
