Wallpaper - Stillness After The Storm

Created by Kate Jarvik Birch, our Stillness After The Storm wallpaper brings a painterly, narrative scene to the wall. The composition captures a pair of bright red rain boots standing in a shimmering puddle, surrounded by concentric water ripples, soft reflections, and delicate rain streaks. Cool tones of slate, teal, deep navy, and misty blue dominate the water surface, creating a quiet backdrop that gives the vivid red boots an immediate focal point. Like all our mural wallpapers, this design is made to measure to your exact wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure.

In the room

This wall mural has a distinct narrative quality, making it especially engaging in spaces where you want a piece of visual storytelling. We see this working wonderfully in an entryway or hallway, where the rain and puddle motif creates a playful, welcoming connection to the outdoors. It also suits a children's room, nursery, or creative home office, where the painterly brushwork adds personality without overwhelming the room. Because the artwork relies on an asymmetrical composition with the boots placed in the upper-left quadrant and expansive water reflections flowing downward, we recommend giving it an uninterrupted wall where the full reflection and ripple details can be appreciated.

Styling it

The expressive painted style and rich water tones invite simple, grounding interior choices that let the artwork take center stage.

• Choose warm wood furniture or painted pieces in soft off-white to balance the cool blues and dark slate tones of the puddle.
• Introduce small crimson or warm terracotta decorative accents across cushions, pottery, or lighting to subtly echo the vibrant red boots.
• Keep surrounding textiles relatively understated in plain weaves or solid colors, allowing the rippling brushwork of the wallpaper to provide the room's main visual movement.

Colour combinations

The palette in our design centers on a gradient of cool water shades, including slate blue, muted teal, pale misty aqua, and deep charcoal navy, punctuated by the clear, warm red of the boots. When painting adjacent walls or trim, soft grey-greens, dusky blue-greys, or warm chalky whites will maintain a harmonious atmosphere. If you want to create a bolder, more enveloping feel, dark petrol blue or charcoal trim can frame the mural beautifully while pulling out its deepest shadow tones.
