Wallpaper - Fits and Sits

Created by Kate Jarvik Birch, our Fits and Sits wallpaper captures a charming, illustrated moment featuring an inquisitive ginger tabby cat tucked neatly inside an open cardboard box. Painted with expressive, visible brushwork and warm gouache-like texture, the motif pairs rich terracotta, amber, and warm kraft-paper brown with pale teal and slate shadows in the background. As one of our wall murals, the composition creates an immediate focal point that brings character and playful warmth to an accent wall. Our wallpapers are made-to-measure, PVC-free, and printed on paper with a subtle physical surface structure.

In the room

Because of its centred, portrait-style composition and strong subject, this design works best on an uninterrupted feature wall where the entire illustration can be appreciated without tall furniture obscuring the cat. We love how well it suits a cosy home office, a reading nook, a creative studio, or a child's bedroom. In a smaller space or an entryway alcove, the perspective of the box and the gaze of the cat create an inviting, intimate feel that naturally draws the eye.

Styling it

To let the expressive character of the artwork lead the room, we suggest keeping surrounding furniture relatively simple and warm. Mid-tone natural wood furniture, such as warm oak or birch, complements the kraft brown of the cardboard box and the amber tones of the fur. For textiles, simple textured cushions or throws in unbleached cream, soft terracotta, or muted moss green echo the painting's palette without competing with its details.

Colour combinations

The illustration itself is built on warm ginger orange, rich chestnut brown, cream, and cardboard tan, set against soft pale teal and muted charcoal shadows. For adjacent painted walls and woodwork, we recommend gentle off-whites with a warm undertone, sandy beige, or a soft, dusty eucalyptus green. If you prefer a richer, more enveloping feel, a deep slate grey or warm biscuit tone creates a striking, cohesive companion to the artwork.
