Wallpaper - Dreams Of The Savannah

Created by Kate Jarvik Birch, our Dreams Of The Savannah wallpaper captures a resting male lion asleep atop an ornate patterned textile. What we particularly like about this design is the contrast between the lion's calm, painterly form and the expressive swirls of terracotta red, sky blue, gold, and deep indigo across the patterned rug beneath him. The artwork has a distinct gouache and painted appearance with rich brushstroke details and soft transitions of color. Produced made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure, this design brings character and artistic warmth to any interior.

In the room

Because of the horizontal composition and focal subject, we see this wall mural working particularly well on a wider, uninterrupted wall where the full resting figure of the lion can stretch out naturally. In a living room or a study, placing this design behind a low sofa or a desk keeps the lion's expressive face in clear view without competing with tall furniture.

The rich red and blue tones in the lower half ground the space, while the bright blue background in the upper portion gives the wall a lighter visual feel. In rooms with generous daylight, the painted texture in the lion's mane and the subtle layers in the rug pattern become especially clear.

Styling it

When styling around such an expressive mural wallpaper, we suggest balancing the artwork's painted character with grounded, understated furniture. Low-profile seating in warm brown leather, dark wood, or deep navy upholstery pairs naturally with the tones in the artwork without cluttering the wall line.

To let the intricate motif in the lower section remain the focal point, keep surrounding textiles relatively plain and unpatterned. Clean architectural shapes and subtle matte black or dark bronze details provide a quiet contrast to the loose, expressive brushwork of the design.

Colour combinations

The palette in our wallpaper centres around warm terracotta red, ochre, rich golden browns, sky blue, and deep navy tones. To create a cohesive room scheme, we suggest pulling the warm ochre or deep red into surrounding painted walls, velvet cushions, or accent pieces.

For a fresher and more open feel, surrounding the mural with soft muted blues or neutral off-white on adjacent walls will pick up on the lighter sky tones and let the richer foreground stand out naturally.
