Wallpaper - Borrowed Shapes

Created by Mike Schick, our Borrowed Shapes wallpaper brings together abstract geometric forms with a loose, painterly character. Large color blocks of deep charcoal, cool grey, cream, and soft sand are framed by thin, expressive outlines in orange, teal, and violet. A bold circular motif anchors the upper section, balanced by wavy horizontal planes and structured vertical divisions. The painted-looking texture and visible brushwork give the composition warmth and depth. Made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, this design is straightforward to hang and adds an artistic, modern presence to the home.

In the room

Because of its large-scale composition and confident contrast, we see this design working particularly well on an uninterrupted feature wall in a living room, dining room, or bedroom. Giving the mural wallpaper a wider wall area allows the interplay between the circular form, undulating bands, and vertical blocks to be appreciated in its entirety. The balance of muted neutrals and deep charcoal grounds a room nicely, making it effective behind a low-profile sofa, a dining table, or as a backdrop behind a bed frame without overwhelming the space.

Styling it

When styling around Borrowed Shapes, we suggest letting the wallpaper carry the visual pattern while keeping surrounding elements relatively calm and architectural. Low-profile furniture with clean lines allows the geometry of the mural to remain the focal point. To complement the painterly aesthetic, simple matte ceramics or subtle modern lighting fixtures work nicely against the wall. Warm wood furniture or painted charcoal surfaces connect naturally to the tones within the artwork without competing with its bold layout.

Colour combinations

The palette within our design centres on deep charcoal, neutral grey, warm sand, and off-white, highlighted by fine accent lines of bright orange, teal green, and soft purple. For adjacent walls and trim, warm off-white or light sand paints create a soft, seamless transition that lets the wallpaper stand out. If you prefer a moodier atmosphere, pulling the deep charcoal into painted architectural details or cabinetry creates a grounded, cohesive look.
