Wallpaper - Knitting With Cats Quote

Created by Morgan Birch, our Knitting With Cats Quote wallpaper brings together playful figurative illustration and warm, graphic typography. The central scene portrays a woman peacefully knitting with blue yarn, flanked by two companion cats atop a table decorated with yarn skeins, a tea mug, and potted greenery. Hanging lemon branches frame the top around the bold lettering, Cats Are My Kind of People. Rendered with a charming hand-painted gouache look against a soft cream background, this design is produced as made-to-measure mural wallpapers printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure.

In the room

Because this mural has a clear focal point and centered typography, we like giving it a dedicated, uninterrupted wall where the full composition can be seen clearly. In a living room, dining area, or creative hobby space, it makes a distinctive feature wall behind a low credenza, sofa, or desk. The narrative quality and cozy subject matter also suit reading corners, dressing rooms, and entryways where the playful quote can set an inviting, personal tone.

The scale of the figures and framing leaves makes our design feel grounded without overpowering the surrounding space. If your room receives plenty of natural daylight, the gouache-like brushwork and soft cream background stay bright and airy, while in rooms with warmer ambient lamplight, the rich orange and terracotta tones take on an intimate glow.

Styling it

When styling around this mural, we suggest echoing its handcrafted character through warm, tactile decor choices. Mid-tone woods, warm terracotta accents, and soft upholstered seating naturally complement the central figure's orange knitwear and the rustic warmth of the lemons.

Keeping larger furniture shapes clean and low ensures the central illustration and lettering remain unobstructed. We also like pairing our wall murals with living houseplants, ceramic plant pots in pale blue or glazed earthenware, and cozy woven blankets that pick up on the craft-inspired mood of the artwork.

Colour combinations

The design itself is built on a warm palette of bright citrus yellow, terracotta orange, leafy greens, and soft powder blue, anchored by crisp black accents and a warm cream backdrop.

For surrounding walls and woodwork, soft off-whites, warm creams, or gentle stone tones keep the room feeling cohesive and calm. If you prefer more color, muted sage green or dusty terracotta on adjoining walls or trim creates a rich, tonal continuity that ties into the painted foliage and lettering.
