Wallpaper - Clay and Sky I

Our Clay and Sky I wallpaper, created by artist Nikita Jariwala, translates a painterly landscape into a calm, layered wall mural. Broad, visible brushstrokes build a scene of rolling hills, earthy bluffs, and quiet open space, using a balanced palette of warm terracotta, soft sand, muted blush, and airy pale blue. The horizontal rhythm creates an expansive feel across the wall without overwhelming the room with sharp detail. Printed made-to-measure on our PVC-free paper with a subtle paper structure, this design brings an expressive, fine-art quality to modern interiors while remaining easy to hang.

In the room

Because the composition relies on broad horizontal bands and soft painterly brushwork, we find this mural wallpaper works exceptionally well on wide, uninterrupted walls where the landscape has space to unfold. In a living room, placing it behind a low-backed sofa allows the horizon and gentle sky tones to remain visible across the entire width of the space. It also brings a grounded, restful quality to a bedroom wall behind a headboard or along a dining room wall where the warm clay tones can set an inviting backdrop. In rooms with ample natural light, the subtle shifts between the warm earth pigments and cool blues become particularly distinct throughout the day.

Styling it

To complement the painterly aesthetic of this design, we suggest keeping surrounding furniture relatively low and clean-lined so the composition remains open. Low-profile seating and low credenzas prevent the horizontal layers of the landscape from feeling cut off.

Surrounding materials work best when they mirror the grounded warmth of the artwork. Warm wood furniture, such as oak or walnut, pairs naturally with the clay and ochre tones in the lower half of the design, while simple matte ceramics and unvarnished surfaces balance the brushstroke details. For fabrics, unpatterned textiles in oat, off-white, or muted olive provide comfort without introducing competing patterns against the wall mural.

Color combinations

The palette within the wallpaper balances warm earth shades against cool, airy highlights. Key tones in the artwork include warm clay, muted ochre, dusty blush, soft sandy beige, and pale sky blue.

When choosing paint colors for adjacent walls or trim, off-whites with a warm undertone or soft parchment tones create a gentle, seamless transition. For a slightly bolder setting, picking up the dusty blush or soft terracotta from the hills creates a cohesive, enveloping space. If you prefer a cooler accent on painted cabinetry or woodwork, a soft muted slate or pale grey-blue draws directly from the upper sky tones.
