Wallpaper - Collecting Pollen

Our Collecting Pollen wallpaper mural by Kate Jarvik Birch features a bold, close-up composition of a honeybee resting atop a bright yellow dandelion flower set against a deep black background. We love the striking gouache-style painted look, where detailed brushstrokes define the bee's fuzzy golden-orange body, delicate wings, and the rich layers of the radiating flower petals. The intense contrast between the glowing amber, ochre, and saffron tones and the dark backdrop creates an arresting visual rhythm. Custom made-to-measure on our PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure, this design brings an expressive nature study onto the wall.

In the room

Because of the dramatic contrast and focused macro scale, we see this wall mural working particularly well as an accent wall in a living room, dining room, or creative study. Placing it on an uninterrupted wall behind a low-backed sofa or dining table allows the bee and flower to command attention without being broken up by tall furniture. In smaller spaces, such as an entryway or powder room, the deep dark background wraps the area in an intimate, dramatic mood, while the vibrant yellow flower acts as an immediate focal point under warm evening lighting.

Styling it

To let the graphic intensity of this mural wallpaper take center stage, we would balance it with relatively calm, tactile furnishings. Furniture in warm natural wood tones, such as oiled oak or walnut, echoes the amber and honey hues within the motif while grounding the room. Matte black metal accents or dark architectural details can subtly extend the depth of the dark backdrop throughout the space. We would avoid busy patterned upholstery or overly decorative rugs, opting instead for solid, textured fabrics like heavy bouclé, linen, or smooth leather that let the painted artwork breathe.

Colour combinations

The palette in our wallpaper centres on rich dandelion yellows, deep amber, warm ochre, and soft green-grey stem accents, all sharply framed by solid black. For surrounding walls, pairing this design with a muted charcoal or soft warm black creates a seamless, immersive atmosphere. If you prefer a lighter, more open balance, adjacent walls in a warm cream, buttermilk, or soft honey-beige will pick up on the lighter petals while softening the transition from the black background.
