Wallpaper - Spot Swordtail Butterfly

Our Spot Swordtail Butterfly wallpaper, created by Mackenzie Nelson, showcases a striking, graphic study of a swordtail butterfly set against a warm, painterly cream background. We particularly like the bold contrast between the deep charcoal and black striping and the crisp white wing segments, balanced by the delicate dotting along the outer edges and the distinctive trailing tails. The motif has a painted-looking visual texture, giving the artwork an authentic, illustrative character. As with all our wall murals, it is made-to-measure to fit your wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure.

In the room

Because of the bold graphic presence and centered composition of the butterfly motif, we see this design working beautifully as a focal point in a living room, bedroom, or home office. On a main feature wall behind a low-profile sofa or headboard, the expansive cream backdrop keeps the space feeling open while the detailed wing pattern draws the eye. In a study or guest room, giving our mural wallpapers a dedicated, relatively uninterrupted wall allows the sweeping wing shape and trailing tails to be appreciated without visual competition.

Styling it

We recommend balancing the graphic nature of the black-and-white motif with warm, grounding interior elements. Surrounding the wall mural with warm wood furniture, such as oak or mid-toned timber, complements the warm undertones of the cream background. Keeping larger furniture silhouettes simple and unpatterned prevents the room from feeling crowded, allowing the intricate linework of the wings to remain the central decorative feature.

Colour combinations

The palette within our wallpaper is defined by contrasting charcoal black, soft white, and a warm cream ground. When choosing surrounding wall paint or larger textiles, we like pulling from the warm cream base for adjacent walls to create a cohesive, wrap-around atmosphere. For a crisper, more contemporary contrast, pairing the design with soft off-white trim or charcoal grey accent upholstery works naturally with the butterfly's wing details.
