Wallpaper - Cecropia Moth

Our Cecropia Moth wallpaper, created by Kate Jarvik Birch, features a striking study of North America's largest native moth set against a rich, saturated emerald green background. What we particularly appreciate in this design is the painterly detail across the spread wings, where bold bands of brick red, charcoal, crisp white, and warm terracotta meet soft blush highlights and feathered antennae. The graphic symmetry of the insect, paired with its dark painted shadow beneath, creates an arresting focal point on the wall. Produced as made-to-measure mural wallpapers, this design is printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface texture that gives the artwork a grounded, authentic character.

In the room

Because of the moth's large scale and bold silhouette, we see this wall mural working exceptionally well on a dedicated feature wall where the central motif has plenty of space around it. In a living room, placing this design behind a low sofa or credenza lets the dramatic contrast between the vivid green backdrop and the red wing markings draw immediate focus. It also brings an intimate, curated atmosphere to a bedroom when positioned directly behind the bed headboard. In a study or home library, the rich green backdrop provides a quiet, enveloping setting that pairs naturally with book-lined shelving and focused desk areas.

Styling it

We recommend letting the bold geometry and saturated backdrop of this mural lead the room. To balance the expressive quality of the artwork, we would keep the surrounding furniture relatively grounded in clean lines and deeper tones:

• Darker wood furniture, such as stained walnut or smoked oak, helps echo the deep charcoal tones in the moth's wings while grounding the vibrant green wall.
• Upholstery in warm terracotta, rust, or deep charcoal creates an effortless visual bridge to the detailed patterns within the insect.
• Matte black metal lighting or hardware offers a crisp, modern outline that complements the graphic quality of the painting without competing for attention.

Colour combinations

The palette of our wallpaper is anchored by the deep, rich green background, accented by brick red, charcoal grey, warm orange, white, and subtle lilac on the moth itself. When selecting paint colours and textiles for the surrounding room, deep forest greens or muted olive shades on adjacent walls create a seamless, moody wrap. If you prefer higher contrast, warm off-white or soft linen tones on the trim and ceiling allow the mural to stand out crisply. For accent pieces, earthy rust, burnt orange, and warm ochre pick up the warmest tones in the wing pattern and bring balanced energy into the space.
