Wallpaper - Going it Alone II

Captured by Nathan Larson, this photographic wallpaper brings the quiet expanse of the arid desert landscape into the home. A lone steer stands in the foreground against a wide terrain of low scrub, dry earth, and distant mountains beneath a pale sky. The muted palette of sun-bleached sand, dusty taupe, warm russet, and soft slate blue gives the panoramic composition a grounded, atmospheric presence. Produced as custom made-to-measure mural wallpapers, our designs are PVC-free and printed on paper featuring a subtle surface structure.

In the room

Because of its broad panoramic perspective and off-centre subject, we see this wall mural working particularly well on a wide, uninterrupted wall where the full horizon line can stretch out. In a spacious living room or open-plan dining space, placing the mural on the main feature wall creates an immediate sense of visual depth. It also suits a study, home office, or quiet bedroom where the open landscape provides an unhurried, grounded backdrop. To preserve the visual balance of the composition, we suggest keeping lower furniture along the wider plain on the left, letting the steer on the right remain unobstructed.

Styling it

To complement the weathered warmth of the landscape, we would pair this wallpaper with low-profile furniture and natural textures. Pieces in warm, lightly aged wood or mid-tone walnut sit comfortably alongside the dusty earth tones of the scenery. Upholstery in textured linen, saddle leather, or muted wool helps echo the rugged outdoor aesthetic without competing with the photography. We would keep decorative accessories relatively minimal, perhaps choosing matte black metal lighting or unglazed stoneware to echo the quiet character of the open country.

Colour combinations

The palette within our design centres on sun-warmed tan, bleached sand, dusty desert brush, russet brown, and the hazy slate tones of the distant mountains. When selecting surrounding paint colours, warm off-whites, pale clay, or light greige on adjacent walls will keep the room cohesive and open. For trims or accent pieces, deeper charcoal, earthy terracotta, or dry sage green can draw out the darker values in the steer and foliage while maintaining a balanced, natural environment.
