Wallpaper - Standing Horse at a Fence

Our Standing Horse at a Fence wallpaper combines a detailed equestrian pencil sketch with a classic plaid border. At the centre of the composition, a horse stands quietly beside a rustic wooden fence and water's edge, rendered in warm sepia and beige sketch strokes. Framing the central artwork is a tailored tartan check pattern in matching warm brown, taupe, and cream tones, giving the wall mural the structured balance of framed heritage art. Produced as a made-to-measure, PVC-free design with a subtle physical structure in the paper, this is one of our mural wallpapers that brings classic countryside character into the home.

In the room

Because this design is composed as a framed central scene surrounded by plaid, we see it working particularly well as an intentional feature wall. In a living room behind a sofa, a dining room, or a study, the central horse illustration draws the eye while the outer check pattern provides visual grounding. Placing it on a main wall with minimal tall furniture allows the framed vignette and the fence details to remain clearly visible.

Styling it

To complement the equestrian and country heritage feel of the wallpaper, we would look to classic materials and comfortable shapes.

• Pair the warm sepia tones with rich, medium-to-dark wood furniture, such as walnut or aged oak, to anchor the traditional character of the sketch.
• Keep large upholstery pieces in tailored neutral textiles like oatmeal tweed, wool, or textured cream linen to harmonise with the woven appearance of the plaid border.
• Introduce understated warm metal accents, such as antique brass picture lights or bronze hardware, which bring out the warmth in the taupe and brown line work.

Colour combinations

The palette in our wallpaper centres on warm sepia, soft brown, taupe, and muted off-white. When choosing colours for surrounding walls and woodwork, warm off-white or soft linen tones create a gentle transition that lets the mural remain the focal point. For a more enveloping, traditional atmosphere, surrounding the mural with rich chocolate brown, warm caramel, or deep taupe on adjacent walls and trim echoes the plaid border beautifully.
