Wallpaper - Charcoal Trace II

Our Charcoal Trace II wallpaper by June Erica Vess brings an expressive abstract composition to the wall through sweeping, painted-looking brushstrokes and fine gestural lines. Grounded by a rich, dark charcoal form near the base, the motif balances earthy ochre and warm beige tones with open areas of off-white and soft cream. The loose, layered brushwork creates visual depth without overwhelming the room, giving the mural wallpaper an artistic, gallery-like presence. Like all Wallism wallpapers, it is custom made-to-measure and PVC-free, with a subtle physical structure in the paper.

In the room

Because the composition relies on broad, expressive strokes anchored by a single dark mass, we find this mural wallpaper works best where the pattern has enough unbroken wall space to be appreciated as a whole. A wide feature wall in a living room, behind a low-backed sofa or along a dining area, allows the interplay between the dense charcoal foundation and the lighter upper strokes to unfold naturally.

In spaces like a quiet bedroom or a home office, the muted warm tones help the wall feel calm and grounded. The design does not require soaring ceilings, but giving it room to breathe without tall wardrobes or heavy shelving across the center lets the gestural movement retain its visual impact.

Styling it

We recommend pairing this wallpaper with furnishings that complement its modern, painterly character without competing for attention.

• Choose furniture with clean silhouettes and low profiles, such as low credenzas or tailored seating, to keep the upper half of the composition unobstructed.
• Incorporate warm wood tones, such as natural oak or walnut, to echo the ochre and warm beige passages within the artwork.
• Balance the expressive brushwork with tactile, unpatterned fabrics on larger upholstery pieces, letting the wall mural serve as the primary visual focus in the space.

Colour combinations

The palette in our wallpaper centers on deep charcoal, warm ochre, muted earth brown, soft cream, and off-white.

When choosing paint for adjoining walls or woodwork, soft neutral tones like warm cream, pale putty, or light greige draw out the lighter areas of the motif and create a seamless transition around the room. If you prefer higher contrast, a deep charcoal or warm espresso tone on nearby doors or trim highlights the dark anchor of the painting, giving the interior a bolder, architectural edge.
