Wallpaper - New Mexico Calling I

Our New Mexico Calling I wallpaper mural captures a wide desert landscape beneath an expansive sky filled with drifting clouds. Designed by Nathan Larson, the panoramic composition balances rugged mountain peaks along the lower horizon with open atmospheric space above. The palette centres on warm sand, muted ochre, dusty earth tones, and a deep, vintage-tinted turquoise sky. Printed as a made-to-measure, PVC-free mural on paper with a subtle physical structure, it brings a grounded sense of scale and depth to larger wall areas.

In the room

Because the mountain ridges and desert plain sit low in the frame, we find this mural wallpaper works exceptionally well on an open, uninterrupted wall where the full horizon can spread out. In a living room, placing it behind a low sofa allows the landscape to anchor the lower half of the space while the cloud-filled sky opens up the room above eye level.

The dramatic scale also suits a bedroom wall behind a headboard or a dedicated dining space where you want a striking focal point. Because the upper two thirds of the composition consist of soft cloud layers and open teal tones, the design adds depth without making a room feel visually crowded or enclosed.

Styling it

When styling around this design, we prefer to echo its natural desert tones through grounding furniture and clean profiles. Low-slung seating in warm leather or sand-toned upholstery keeps the mountain horizon visible and lets the mural set the horizon of the entire room.

We would also bring in warm wood accents, such as walnut or natural oak, alongside dark iron or matte black metal details that reflect the rugged contours of the distant peaks. Keeping surrounding decorative pieces relatively sparse and simple helps preserve the open, cinematic feel of the landscape.

Colour combinations

The design itself pairs warm ochre, dusty beige, and terracotta earth shades with creamy white clouds and a muted, dark teal-blue sky.

To create a cohesive scheme around the mural, we suggest pulling the warm, sandy undertones onto adjacent painted walls or baseboards with soft desert neutrals and warm beige. Alternatively, you can lean into the deeper mood of the sky by pairing the wall with deep slate blue, charcoal, or muted olive textiles on curtains and upholstery.
