Wallpaper - Crimson

Our Crimson wallpaper by Kate Jarvik Birch features a bold, painted portrait of a northern cardinal set against a rich teal backdrop. What we particularly like about this design is the vibrant contrast between the cardinal's vivid red, orange, and deep black plumage and the cool, brush-textured background. The expressive, painterly strokes give the motif an artisanal character with distinct visual texture and lively depth. Printed as made-to-measure mural wallpapers on PVC-free paper with a subtle paper structure, our design brings an eye-catching artistic presence to any interior wall.

In the room

Because of the strong central subject and striking colour contrast, we see this wall mural working especially well as a focal point on an accent wall. In a living room, placing it behind a low-backed sofa or along a main feature wall lets the complete bird illustration stand out without being obstructed. The artwork also suits a creative home office, study, or hallway where the expressive character and saturated palette can bring energy to the space. For smaller rooms or reading nooks, keeping the surrounding walls in quiet, complementary tones allows the cardinal motif to command attention without overwhelming the room.

Styling it

When styling around this design, we suggest balancing its strong visual weight with understated furniture and clean silhouettes. Modern or mid-century pieces with clean lines prevent the room from feeling cluttered around such a prominent subject.

To complement the rich plumage, incorporating warm wood furniture, such as teak or warm oak, creates a natural connection to the earthy red tones. Surrounding decorative accents in matte black or deep charcoal can echo the dark facial markings of the bird, tying the room together in a cohesive, intentional way.

Colour combinations

The palette in our wallpaper centres on fiery reds, vermilion, soft orange, and deep black, contrasted against a broad field of cool teal and sea green.

When choosing colours for surrounding walls, trim, or textiles, soft muted neutrals like warm off-white, pale greige, or soft stone work beautifully to keep the focus on the mural. If you prefer a bolder, moodier room scheme, pairing adjacent surfaces with deep forest greens, dark teal, or muted charcoal creates a dramatic, enveloping environment that accentuates the cardinal's luminous red plumage.
