Wallpaper - Luminous

In our Luminous wallpaper, created by Kate Jarvik Birch, an open oyster shell reveals an iridescent mother-of-pearl interior holding a single pearl. The painterly artwork captures shimmering refractions of violet, soft teal, pearlescent white, and delicate lavender, resting against a calm lilac background with a soft cast shadow. The illustrative brushwork gives the central motif a distinct artistic presence, making it a striking focal point on an accent wall. Like all our mural wallpapers, this design is made-to-measure to your exact wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle paper structure.

In the room

Because Luminous is composed around a generous central subject, we see this wall mural working particularly well on an uninterrupted wall where the full painted shell can be viewed without being divided by door frames or tall storage units. In a bedroom, placing the motif behind the headboard or opposite the bed allows the soft lilac field and shimmering tones to set a calm, expressive tone.

The design also suits a dressing room, guest bedroom, or creative home office where you want an artistic statement that still feels gentle and cohesive. Because the background is composed of a soft wash, the wallpaper gives the room visual depth while keeping the overall atmosphere open and airy.

Styling it

When styling around Luminous, we recommend keeping large furniture pieces simple in silhouette to let the painterly details of the shell take precedence. Painted woodwork or modern furniture in muted, chalky neutrals creates a quiet foundation that lets the pearlescent colors glow naturally.

To complement the coastal subject without leaning into obvious nautical themes, pair the wall mural with natural textures like washed linen, brushed cotton, and matte ceramics. Light wood accents or soft metallic hardware in brushed brass bring gentle warmth that balances the cool lavender and aqua notes in the artwork.

Colour combinations

The motif contains a multifaceted palette drawn from the iridescent shell, including pale lilac, lavender, aqua blue, soft turquoise, pearlescent white, and warm ochre along the shell ridges.

For surrounding walls and woodwork, we like using soft off-white, muted periwinkle, or chalky lavender to create an understated, wraparound effect. If you prefer subtle contrast, picking up the deeper indigo or teal from the shell interior on soft textiles or painted shelving adds grounding depth while keeping the space harmoniously tied to our wallpaper.
