Wallpaper - Earthy Abstract II

Designed by Danhui Nai, our Earthy Abstract II wallpaper brings a fluid, painterly atmosphere to interior walls. The composition centres on broad, sweeping horizontal washes of deep umber, warm clay, and smoky taupe, balanced by subtle bleeding edges of muted grey and faint seafoam undertones. Resembling layered ink or watercolour on textured paper, the visual movement creates a quiet sense of depth without relying on sharp geometric lines. Our made-to-measure wallpapers are printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, making them straightforward to hang in any room that benefits from a grounded, artistic backdrop.

In the room

Because of the sweeping horizontal flow and broad tonal gradients, we especially like this design on a wider, uninterrupted wall where the full breadth of the abstract movement can unfold. In a living room behind a low-profile sofa, or across a bedroom wall behind a headboard, the darker central band anchors the space while the lighter top and bottom washes keep the overall feel balanced.

In rooms with changing natural light throughout the day, the earthy pigments reveal interesting shifts in warmth. Morning daylight highlights the soft, cool undertones at the edges, while warmer evening lamps enhance the richer brown and clay notes in the centre. The design also works beautifully in a dedicated dining room or a quiet home study, where an immersive feature wall can introduce depth without competing with everyday work surfaces.

Styling it

When styling around our mural wallpapers, we prefer letting the expressive brushwork remain the visual focus by pairing it with simple forms and tactile materials.

• Choose low-profile furniture in natural finishes such as warm oak, walnut, or matte black metal to complement the grounded earth tones without obstructing the horizontal flow.
• Introduce unpatterned textiles in rough linen, washed cotton, or wool bouclé to add physical warmth and contrast against the fluid, painterly surface.
• Accent the space with matte ceramics, smoked glass, or brushed bronze details that pick up on the subtle mineral shades within the motif.

Colour combinations

The palette in this wallpaper is built on deep earth tones, featuring burnt umber, warm ochre, and soft taupe blended into smoky grey and delicate washes of muted teal.

To create a cohesive interior, we suggest painting adjacent walls in warm off-white, soft stone, or pale greige to mirror the lighter borders of the artwork. For a bolder, more enveloping environment, deeper charcoal or muted olive on surrounding woodwork and skirting creates a sophisticated frame around the central mural. When choosing upholstery and drapery, consider neutral oatmeal or rich cognac leather to echo the warmest notes in the pigment.
