Wallpaper - Food Phrases I

Designed by Becky Thorns, our Take It Easy typographic wallpaper brings a warm, expressive note to the wall with handwritten brush lettering set against an off-white background. The dark indigo lettering features subtle brushstroke textures, giving the phrase a relaxed, painterly feel rather than a rigid graphic print. Its centred, vertical composition creates a striking focal point with plenty of calm negative space around the words. Like all of our wallpapers, this design is made to measure to your exact wall dimensions, printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface texture, and straightforward to hang.

In the room

Because of its bold central lettering and generous open background, we see this wall mural working particularly well as an accent wall in spaces where you want a relaxed, casual atmosphere. In a kitchen, breakfast nook, or dining space, it introduces character without cluttering the visual field. It also sits naturally on an entryway wall to greet you when you walk in, or behind a desk in a home office to bring a lighter, grounded energy to your workspace.

We recommend giving this design a relatively clear wall where the phrase remains legible and unobscured by tall storage or high furniture. Placed behind a low sideboard, a dining bench, or a reading chair, the lettering sits at natural eye level while the clean background keeps the surrounding room feeling open and bright.

Styling it

The hand-lettered quality of the typography pairs effortlessly with laid-back, contemporary interiors and casual retro influences. We like balancing the dark blue lettering with warm natural woods like birch, light oak, or honey-toned pine in table tops and low shelving.

To complement the simple two-tone graphic, we suggest incorporating softly textured fabrics such as washed cotton cushions, woven rugs, and matte ceramics. Keeping surrounding decorative pieces unpretentious and functional allows the graphic character of the mural wallpapers to stand out as the hero of the space.

Colour combinations

The palette of our design relies on the clean, high-contrast combination of deep indigo blue lettering on a soft, warm off-white backdrop.

When choosing paint colours for adjacent walls, trim, or cabinetry, you can lean into warm neutrals like soft parchment, ecru, or oatmeal to echo the wallpaper base and create a cohesive flow. Alternatively, matching surrounding woodwork or lower cabinets to rich navy or midnight blue will pick up on the lettering and add depth. Earthy accent tones such as terracotta, mustard, or olive green also pair beautifully in small decorative details.
