Wallpaper - Wanaka Sheep I

Our Wanaka Sheep I wallpaper mural, created with photographer Laura Marshall, captures a peaceful mountain landscape in striking black and white. Set against rolling ridges and snow-dusted alpine peaks, a small group of sheep rests on a grassy slope in the foreground, bringing an intimate focal point to a vast panoramic view. The high tonal contrast between the bright sky, snowcapped ridges, and deep shadowed valleys creates a dramatic sense of depth across the wall. Produced as a made-to-measure mural, this PVC-free wallpaper has a subtle structure in the paper that gives photographic imagery a refined, soft-matte look on the wall.

In the room

Because of its sweeping landscape format and strong horizon, we see this wall mural working particularly well on an uninterrupted main wall where the mountain panorama can stretch out fully. In a living room or behind a dining table, placing the mural on a wider wall gives the foreground slope and distant snowfields room to establish a clear sense of scale. The open sky in the upper half of the composition also prevents the wallpaper from feeling visually heavy, leaving the room feeling airy even with the rich dark tones through the mountain range. In a bedroom, setting this behind a low bed frame keeps the sheep and rocky outcrop nicely framed above the headboard.

Styling it

When decorating around such a distinct black and white photographic mural, we prefer keeping surrounding furniture fairly simple in form so the scenic depth remains the central focus. Low-profile seating or minimalist storage units in natural dark or mid-tone woods sit comfortably alongside the earthy contrast of the mountains. To balance the cooler monochrome tones, incorporating warm, woven textiles like wool blankets, unbleached linen, or a textured natural rug helps introduce physical warmth into the space without adding competing patterns.

Colour combinations

The palette of the wallpaper itself relies entirely on monochrome shades, ranging from crisp snow white and soft misty grays to deep charcoal and rich black in the valley shadows. For adjacent painted walls and woodwork, warm off-whites, soft limestone tones, or pale pebble grays create a seamless and natural transition. If you want a moodier, more enveloping space, you can also pull the deepest charcoal tones from the mountains onto nearby woodwork, doors, or cabinetry.
