Wallpaper - Vintage Horse Portrait I

Created by Crimson Cottage, our Vintage Horse Portrait I mural wallpaper captures the timeless elegance of classic equine art. The design features a graceful brown horse walking across an open green field, set against a soft backdrop of woodland trees and an overcast sky. What we appreciate most about this piece is its traditional oil-painted character, where visible brushstroke textures and warm chestnut tones create a quiet, grounded presence on the wall. Produced as a made-to-measure wall mural, this PVC-free wallpaper brings the charm of historic countryside portraiture directly into the home.

In the room

Because of its pictorial composition and horizontal scale, we see this design working exceptionally well as a feature wall in a dining room, study, or living room. The composition gives the horse room to stride naturally across the space, making a wide, uninterrupted wall behind a dining table, low credenza, or sofa an ideal setting. In a spacious hallway or entryway, it creates an immediate sense of heritage and warmth as you step inside. The balanced green pasture and pale sky also help distribute color evenly across both lower and upper wall areas.

Styling it

To complement the heritage aesthetic of the artwork, we would pair this wall mural with traditional or rustic interior elements. Warm wood furniture, such as antique mahogany, dark oak, or warm walnut, naturally echoes the deep chestnut coat of the horse. Upholstered seating in muted earth tones or textured weave fabrics balances the painterly quality of the scene without distracting from the central subject. Matte black or antiqued brass lighting fixtures also work well to pick up on the traditional gallery feel of the portrait.

Colour combinations

The palette in our wallpaper centres on rich chestnut brown, deep mossy green, soft sage, and muted cloud grey. When choosing paint colours for adjacent walls, trim, or cabinetry, we recommend pulling from these surrounding landscape tones. A soft olive or muted sage green on surrounding walls creates an inviting, wraparound atmosphere. Alternatively, pairing the mural with warm off-white, light taupe, or soft stone on woodwork and ceilings allows the rich brown of the horse to stand out with understated contrast.
