Wallpaper - Puffed and Chuffed

Created by Kate Jarvik Birch, our Puffed and Chuffed wallpaper presents an expressive portrait of a plump pigeon rendered with painted-looking brushstrokes and soft visual texture. The composition centres on the bird's round, puffed silhouette, where shades of powder blue, slate, and lavender mingle with rich purple and indigo plumage across the neck, accented by bright orange-red feet and an amber eye. Set against a muted lilac-pink background with subtle paper-like texture, this charming wall mural brings a playful, artistic character to any wall. Like all our wallpapers, it is custom made-to-measure and PVC-free.

In the room

Because of its bold central motif and painterly character, we see this mural wallpaper working particularly well as a focal point on an accent wall. In a home office or study, placing it behind a desk introduces a touch of whimsy and warmth to the workday. It also feels right at home in a guest room, children's bedroom, or an entryway where its friendly subject can make an immediate, cheerful impression on arriving guests.

To give the portrait presence, we recommend installing this design on a relatively open wall where the pigeon's full shape and surrounding lilac backdrop can be appreciated without tall furniture obscuring the artwork.

Styling it

When styling around this design, we like to keep surrounding elements grounded and tactile to balance the lively, illustrative nature of the artwork. Warm, natural wood finishes like mid-tone oak or birch complement the cooler blues and purples while picking up on the warm orange details in the feet and eye.

Opt for soft, unpatterned textiles in off-white, heather grey, or muted lavender to support the artwork without competing for visual attention. Clean-lined furniture with simple silhouettes prevents the space from feeling overcrowded, allowing the painted pigeon motif to remain the clear hero of the room.

Colour combinations

The palette in our wallpaper centres around cool periwinkle blues, slate, violet, and deep indigo, contrasted gently by bright orange-red accents and framed by a pale, dusty lilac backdrop.

For adjacent walls and woodwork, soft neutrals like pale chalky white, warm greige, or muted dove grey create a cohesive, soothing backdrop. If you prefer to draw out the artwork's richer tones, incorporating accents in deep navy, dusty plum, or small touches of rust and terracotta in cushions or pottery will harmonise beautifully with the bird's feathers and details.
