Wallpaper - Neutral Coils I

Designed by June Erica Vess, our Neutral Coils I wallpaper brings together sweeping, fluid ribbons across a deeply textured, charcoal-toned backdrop. What we particularly like about this design is the interplay between the winding, sand-coloured bands and the distressed, plaster-like visual texture underneath. The large-scale, intertwined motion creates a bold graphic rhythm while the muted, earthy palette keeps the overall expression grounded and warm. Produced as a made-to-measure, PVC-free wall mural, the paper features a subtle surface structure that complements the painterly depth of the artwork.

In the room

Because the winding forms have such an expansive scale and continuous movement, we see this working particularly well across a wider, uninterrupted wall. In a living room or behind a low headboard in a bedroom, the full curve of the coils can unfold without being cut off by tall cabinetry or heavy shelving. The balance between dark slate tones and warm beige also makes it an engaging choice for a dining room or an entryway, where you want the wallpaper to carry genuine visual presence as an accent wall.

Styling it

We recommend letting the bold geometry of this design lead the space while keeping surrounding furnishings tailored and tactile. Mid-toned or dark woods, such as walnut or smoked ash, complement the deep charcoal background, while soft upholstery in linen or bouclé balances the strong painted linework. Furniture with clean, architectural lines provides a pleasing counterpoint to the organic curves on the wall. For lighting, warm side lamps and directional wall lights bring out the nuanced tonal shifts across the darker base.

Colour combinations

The design itself centres on a palette of dark charcoal, slate grey, and warm sandy beige with subtle taupe shading. When introducing surrounding colours, we suggest leaning into complementary earthy neutrals. Deep charcoal or off-black paint on adjacent walls, woodwork, or doors creates an intimate, enveloping setting. Alternatively, pairing it with warm oatmeal, soft taupe, or chalky stone tones will brighten the surrounding space while echoing the lighter coils.
