Wallpaper - Within Reach

Created by Kate Jarvik Birch, our Within Reach wallpaper captures an expressive moment of human connection against a deep, dark backdrop. The composition centres on two hands reaching toward one another with expressive brushwork, layered flesh tones, and sculpted highlights that give the motif a painted artistic look. The rich contrast between the shadowy background and the warm terracotta, rose, and plum tones in the hands gives our mural wallpaper a dramatic visual presence. Made-to-measure to fit your wall dimensions, this PVC-free wallpaper introduces a bold focal point with a subtle physical structure in the paper that feels refined in any interior.

In the room

Because of the scale and strong focal point of the reaching hands, we see this wall mural working particularly well on a wide, uninterrupted wall where the full composition has room to breathe. In a living room, placing the design behind a low sofa keeps the central visual gesture clearly visible while anchoring the seating area. It also makes an atmospheric statement on a bedroom feature wall behind a low headboard or across a quiet study wall, where the dark backdrop creates an enveloping sense of depth without overwhelming the space.

Styling it

To balance the expressive artwork, we would keep the surrounding furniture relatively understated and low-profile. Clean-lined pieces allow the movement in the hands to remain the main visual focus of the room. Warm wood furniture, such as dark oak or walnut, echoes the earthy warmth of the painted skin tones, while matte dark metal accents connect naturally with the deep charcoal and navy background. Incorporating textured, unpatterned fabrics on larger upholstery pieces helps maintain a calm, layered aesthetic around the mural.

Colour combinations

The design itself features a compelling palette of deep slate, charcoal, and inky dark tones contrasted by warm terracotta, dusky rose, muted plum, and soft cream highlights. When choosing surrounding wall colours, we recommend pairing this wallpaper with muted off-whites or soft greys to let the wall mural stand out cleanly. For a richer, more continuous look, adjacent walls painted in deep slate, muted charcoal, or warm ochre draw out the tonal depth in the painting and create an intimate, cohesive room.
